For many people, going to the Gym is as standard as getting up in the morning. Whether it be before work or after work, some people just build the actions of working out into their daily schedule. Anyone can do this, it just comes down to your purpose and drive behind working out. So what is your motive?
Are you looking to lose weight? If so, this is an easy one to set targets and goals. If you want to lose a certain amount of weight, use this as a long term goal and don’t stop until you reached your desired weight. A few pounds? A few KG? It doesn’t matter as long as you have the focus and determination you will succeed.
Alternatively, instead of setting yourself weight targets, how about a target top? Buy a top that is considerably small for yourself and claim it to be your ‘target top’. This way, you have a qualitative value of all those hours in the gym; running, sweating and working out.
Are you training for an event such as a run, walk and marathon or charity event? If this is the case then you will likely be feeling a lot of pressure to perform. The chances are the gym will be full of people in a very similar situation as yourself so make friends, talk to people and you should be fine.
Partner up or find a gym buddy. If you are a competitive person this is most definitely a worthwhile consideration because you will be able to set targets against one another. We are all human and every so often we feel lethargic and can’t be bothered going to the gym. Your gym buddy will be the motivation you need to reach your targets, better your goals and to ultimately, keep you going in that gym of yours!
Other ways in which you can fulfil your gym targets is planning events around your gym activities. Make going to the gym a top priority and all other business and arrangements have to operate around it. Using a diary can help, so you can track where you should be and when.
You will of course be working hard and at times everyone wants to stop but you need to make it fun and enjoyable. Keep your exercises different and fresh. Every so often use a different piece of gym equipment that you don’t usually workout on. Hiring a PT (personal trainer) could also be a consideration, as these will help you create the perfect gym program according to your goals and needs. They vary in cost somewhat but if you are an exercise novice, for the first couple of weeks/months, a PT could be fairly worthwhile investment. Remember its not always the quantity of the workout but the quality!
I hope this advice helps. It has helped me massively and I once dabbled in the recreation of going to my local fitness club. Now I go three or four times a week become I made the Gym part of my life. Good luck!
